We lost our mate

This week we made an appoinment with a broker to visit a Compromis 39 in Heijningen (Zeeland), but a dark day in our lives came by.

Sipke our loyal friend for the last (almost) 10 years died suddenly. We, as a family, are in big shock. Maybe you think it is a bit an overreaction, but hé, for us this is a big deal. This friend was real part of our family and the best sailordog you can wish for. We are doubting if we want to go to the boat, because it feels like … everyting is changed.

At the and we diceded to go with the four of us. So we don’t have to be in a kind of empty house and we try to make a lovely day with the family. Our oldelst daughter doesn’t like the idea to change our vessel. She realy wants to stay on our current motorboat Casper. But she has to get used to it. Now she is 14 years old and at some point (she thinks not) she goes on her own holiday. So this is the oppertunity to let her feel that it is going to happen.

With a bag filled with coffee, tea and breakfast we left early in the morning (after a bad night of sleep) we drove to Zeeland. After an 2,5 hour drive we arrived at the broker. The boat on the hard, without a mast it looks a bit funny.

The broker needed some time to finish his task and to grab a ladder for us, so we grabed our opportunity to check the bottom of the boat. It is a boat from the ’90, not that young you can say. We are a bit confused, the bottom looked recent painted…. But also not… When the broker came with the ladder he showed us the way up, opened the door and left us alone.

First impression also a relatively small cockpit, but the aftdek seams rather big. We enter the boat and we inmediatly concluded that the space inside is much bigger than the other Compromis we checked (offcourse, the boat is much bigger 🙂 ). The space is nice, in the galley there is enough headspace. But the overall storage space disappoints us. We spend quite some time inside this boat.

We discussed the following:
We doubt if you can stand up in the cockpit while you have the bimini above you. The space in the cockpit is really small, there is really minor space to store stuff, and inside it feels a bit small. And although we really like the design of the boat, and are impressed of the size of the master bed we doubt if this is the boat for us.

All this we tried to only look at the basics of the boat, not to focus on this boat. Because we have some question marks about this boat. It is some kind of refit done, but not in the way we like to do it. That is all I want to say about it at this point.

At the end we had a nice day with the four of us and for a moment we were able to forget the pain of losing our dear friend. This gives us new energy, the boat hunt continues.
