Visit Makkum

The boat hunt continues. This month we are determined to start checking boats in real life. First step Makkum, a little village in Friesland. A place we are familiar with, so we can call this a baby-step again. We called the broker a view days ago; “we like to visit a Bavaria 42 Custom Line and a Compromis 34” . The broker seems supprised because those are such different boats. Roelof explaned the broker more about our current state and goal: investigate, look, feel and make a short list. In Dutch we call it: “kijken, kijken en niet kopen”. Besides splitting costs during diner, the Dutch are known for it. “Check here, check there and never buy” 🙂 . Well we don’t feel any guilt about it…

So with that said, we went to Makkum. Knowing that the Compromis was allready sold (that fast ??? yeah, welcom in COVID world) and knowing some other couple went to see that Bavaria aswell.

The Bavaria is in the water and is frequently used. Even in the cold snowy weather the owner sailed. Why does he wants to sell it? We walk to the boat in the doc. First impression: what a vessel! It is huge. A bit awkward we set foot on this boat via the bow. On our power boat we never use the bow. First pops in my mind: How do we do this with our dog, Sipke. He is part of our family and the biggest fan of boatlive. Oke, something to think about.

Second thing: what a major cockpit, how nice is that, and the same feeling about the intiriour. This is a boat with so much space, you definitely good live on it. But…. in my opinion it’s to big. Is that possible? Yes, because the bigger the boat, the bigger the sails, the higher the costs. But we are impressed, in spite of the state in which it is. The pros and cons are quit simple for this boat. And knowing that we are certainly not going to buy this one, it’s safe to dream.

The broker understands our wishes and gives us the feeling we are doing a good job with this boat hunt and babysteps. It is a very nice visit most of all because we can openly talk about our dream without thinking that we are fools.

We step of this boat and go to the Compromis on the hard. The broker shows us the way and leave us behind. Oef climing on a boat on the hard, not my favorite thing to do.

Entering the boat, first thing on my mind: what a small cockpit. And I hear you think, you should look at them the other way arount. Yeah I know, but we couldn’t because of that other visitors. Wel second impression: it is a beautifill boat, but small. The headspace in the galley is not much, Roelof can not stand there… But but, the boat is in perfect state. We know for sure, … feet is to small.

Full of energy we go home, this day was a nice babystep.
