Patience is being tested….

“When will your new boat arrive?” or “Is the boat here yet?” These are frequently asked questions… For more than half a year we have been saying “we hope somewhere around the end of May early June, it all depends on the weather and the wind”. And that’s right, everything depends on the weather and the wind. By now it is the end of May beginning of June, she has not left yet.

Makeable as life is these days, this is not it. Thank goodness, because otherwise there would be even more to wage war over. But frustrating it is.

Wind/No Wind

Two weeks ago we phoned the Azores, for more than a week there is a passenger from Holland waiting for the right weather hole. The advantage is that he has been able to do some odd jobs there, but his (free) time is starting to run out. The chance that he will have to return home unfinished is increasing by the hour. An enormous depression has passed over the Azores in recent days. The decision not to go has so far proved to be the right one. Now there are still high waves on the ocean, for the coming days it doesn’t look good either. Too little wind, from the wrong angle, too much wind, different weather maps predicting different things, it all makes my head spin. Am I ever going to learn this, high pressure area to the right, low pressure area to the left… or was it the other way around.

Fortunately, the captain has to decide when to go, not an easy choice for him either. He too would like to deliver the boat to us, but not in pieces. We have to rely on his experience in this field and for impatient people who also like to be in control, like us, this is quite difficult. Get used to it, I tell us both, because this… this is going to happen to us more often in the future….

Meanwhile, we glorify ourselves with photos of sailors and departures on Instagram and have our weekly viewing round on YouTube. On Wednesdays we watch the crew of SanSouci (watalsjedeloterijnietwind), on Thursdays we watch Tranquility, on weekends we watch Aticus, Delos, Nahoa, Odd, STLT, Heron, etc. But not forgetting also to Kees of the Vlogging Destination. Jealous? No, we look with respect and admiration, they just do it: chase your dream… and even though we are not even sailing yet, it feels like we already belong… because we do it too: we chase our dream too, even if at this moment it consists of waiting….
