Three weeks off… Off Grid? No that is not really possible in the Netherlands. But we were 3 weeks off… No busy schedule, no work, just the 4 of us on our lovely powerboat ‘Casper’. We call it our summer holiday.
Last year we made a travel plan for this holiday. We had the wish to sail around Flevoland (the newest province of the Netherlands). Off course this requires a couple of days sailing on the Ijsselmeer and the Markermeer. So with our powerboat Casper we need a good weather window, which is: No, or very light wind. Until the last moment we didn’t know if we could do it.
Long story short, we made it. We started our journey half July in Heeg. After a couple of days with (for us) to much wind, the opportunity came to sail through the lock in Lemmer to the IJsselmeer.
At that point there was no wind at all, and the forecast for the upcoming days were very good. So we sailed from Lemmer to Lelystad, via Almere, Muiderzand to Spakenburg and then to Horst, Elburg, Ketelhaven, Giethoorn, Akkrum, Sneek, Grou and with some other stops back to Heeg.
The first week of our trip we were in a sailing vessel environment, how nice was that. We had beautiful views and nice people around us with mainly sailboats. Once we arrived in Spakenburg we felled like we were in the powerboat environment again. And as previous years we discovered that we don’t fit in this world completely.
Anyway we had a great time during our Holiday. We had nice Dutch weather, meaning: a bit rain, a bit wind, a bit sun and some 24oC. For us that is great weather. We managed to get to the supermarket just one time, made our own Bread and Yoghurt. Did a lot of games in the evening (sometimes even during the night), eat a lot of delicious food, made granola and boat made pizza. Supped on the board, swum during sun and rain. The best you can get.
But during our Holiday we realized that this probable is our last holiday on Casper, and this brought also some tears. It is a strange feeling between sadness and joy.
This probable was our last Holiday on Casper… probably, not sure… Yes it seems that our boat search is getting another status. We visit a (not for sale) Compromis 39 to check how it looks like in use. Did we or did we not get a good feeling about this vessel during the visit in March in Zeeland.
